Tamirabarani River

The life blood of Ambasamudram, the Tamirabarani river is such a scenic lake that vegetates the entire region. This perennial river runs throughout the year, and the view is quite something. Tamirabarani’s banks attract a lot of people simply for the view and vibe. People use the river every day, and there are places where Tamirabarani is worshipped, and known other names like Porunai. Temples on the banks of this river have rich lore and immense devotion, and are a must visit.

The Karaiyar Dam or the papanasam dam

The Papanasam dam also known as Karaiyar Dam, is located just seven and a half kilometres from Ambasamudram. The view from the dam is breath taking, and is a major tourist attraction for the people that visit Ambasamudram. The dam is not just an aesthetic appeasement, but is also very functional. A lot of people from Tirunelveli use it for their agricultural and day to day usage. The dam irrigates 86,107 acres of paddy fields in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin. Papanasam, as the name of the place suggests, is believed to clear people of their sins.

Agasthiyar Falls

This place is filled with lore and a spiritual history and is a must visit for our guests. As per the Hindu legends, during the marriage ceremony of Shiva and Parvati, there was too much crowd in Kailasa, Shiva’s abode, creating imbalance. Sage Agasthiyar decided to sacrifice his ceremonial view for the sake of restoring balance and stayed In place, yet wanted to see the ceremony so bad that he prayed to Lord Shiva. Shiva moved by his prayers, appeared in front of the sage in his own abode, with Parvati. The place he visited was Papanasam, and he was hence known to be the ‘Papanasanadhar’. The falls near Agasthiyar’s abode was called Agasthiyar Falls. This is located 31 kms from Ambasamudram.

Manimutharu Dam

In the foot of the Podhigai hills, is this dam built on the mighty Tamirabarani. The surreal view and the feeling of being surrounded by the magnificence of both the river and the mountains is a sight not to miss. Just 12 kms from Ambasamudram, we suggest that you travel during dusk or dawn to enjoy the view of water, sky and mountains meet. You can even visit the Manimutharu waterfalls. The breeze and the greenery are sure to add to the experience of sightseeing.

Courtallam

Courtallam is a land of waterfalls. If you were to take a day off of your tour schedule and spend it in Courtallam, you would be glad to have visited there. Start from AmbaiGrand in the morning, reach Courtallam, visit all the falls. Take spare clothing and towels, and please do not use cleansers! The scenic beauty and the feeling of tons of water pouring in on you really clears your mind.

Kalayana Theertham

Reachable from Ambasamudram by rail and road, Kalyana Theertham is the source of the sacred river Tamirabarani. Located remotely, the place is less crowded, and the waterfall there is a major attraction. You can rejuvenate both your mind and soul in Kalyana Theertham. The rich flora and fauna there are a major tourist attraction for all environmentalist and bird watchers. People find this place breath taking and soothing. The place also has rich religious history, and is a lush village.

Brahmadesam Temple

Brahmadesam, a village in Ambasamudram pulls in a lot of people, devotees and tourists. This is for two things – One, the Kailasanathar Temple. Two – The scenic beauty of the village itself. Sat near Tamirabarani, the village carries a fertile soil suitable for prosperous agriculture. This is also the birthplace of the second Acharya of Sri Kanchi Kamkodi peedam, Atmendra Saraswathi. This is a must visit when you stay in AmbaiGrand. So as a place blessed with authentic population and awe inspiring sights.

Manjolai

32 kms from Ambasamudram, and 63 kms from Tirunelveli, Manjolai is sat in the Western Ghats mountain range. The scenic beauty of Manjolai is the result of its altitude. The tallest peak of Manjolai is 1162 mts high. Tea estates and other viewpoints are very good spots to visit. The serene beauty of this place pulls in a lot of visitors every year, and we recommend our guests to visit Manjolai. Trekking through thick vegetation of Manjolai is a must do activity that we recommend to our guests.
